About the images on Orrku

Short version: most pictures on this site are not photographs of the business you are looking at. They are stock images chosen to suit the category. We would rather say so plainly than let a nice photograph imply something untrue.
The image key
Category image Why there is a picture at all
A directory of plain text is hard to scan, so each listing carries an image that signals what kind of place it is — a café reads as a café at a glance. That image is decoration and orientation. It is not evidence, and it is not a photograph of the venue.
How to tell the two apart
Every image that is not a photograph of the business carries an persistent “Category image” marker in the corner of the picture. If you see that marker, the picture shows a generic example of that category, chosen from a small set we keep for each one. The same picture will appear on other listings in the same category.
When a listing does carry a real photograph of that business, it appears without the category label and with a credit line naming the photographer or source.
What we never do
- Present a stock image as a photograph of a specific business.
- Use a photograph of one business on another business's listing.
- Use images that suggest a service, standard, or condition we have not verified.
- Display business logos or brand marks without permission.
Where the category images come from
They are licensed stock photography, currently sourced from Unsplash under the Unsplash License. Photographer credits for each image are recorded in the repository alongside the files. Some location data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, credited in the footer.
If you own a business listed here
You can send us a real photograph and we will use it in place of the category image, with credit. You can also ask us to show no image at all. Use the “Is this your business?” link on your listing, or the business page.
If an image is yours
If you believe an image on this site is used without the right licence, tell us via the “Report this listing” link on the page in question and we will remove it while we check. We take the image down first and investigate second.
